My name is Liyan (李焰)I‘m from Xian, China . I go by Yan Li and my English nick name is Cindy. My major in college was Chinese Literature. After graduating from Shannxi Normal University , I taught Foreign Exchange students Chinese language and literature.

In 1990, I immigrated to America . I began my life in America near Los Angeles , CA . My husband is a Customs and Border Protection Officer and speaks many different languages, including Chinese. Together, we have two children; Jacob who is 15 and Amanda who is 12. After 9 years of living in Miami our family moved to Ireland . By the summer of August 2008 we relocated back to the United States in Jacksonville.

In all the places that we have lived, I have had the opportunity to further my education and instruct youngsters at Elementary, Middle, and Chinese schools. Currently, I am the vice principal of JCA Chinese School . Additionally, I also teach at the 8th grade level; the highest level of Chinese at JCA Chinese School . I have been teaching Chinese for approximately 14 years. I like to teach students grammar and essay writing skills. My main focuses in teaching my students Chinese, are to focus on dialog, grammar and the use of vocabulary and phrases.

In order to enhance student’s interest in Chinese, I commonly show Chinese culture videos, internet articles and magazines, along with the foundational grammar exercises.also express my love for my native Chinese culture by playing and singing both traditional country and modern Chinese music during class time. I look forward to serving and teaching at JCA Chinese School . Let’s work together and make a great year and make our school the best Chinese School in Florida.


My name is Wenjie Zhang. I am a teacher at Jacksonville Chinese School since 2004, and am currently teaching fifth grade.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Chinese Language and Literature from Hebei Teacher's University.

Throughout my career, I have taught students Chinese language and literature in China for six years. I have been part time teaching Chinese for 13 years, ever since I went abroad from China.
My current career is in accounting, but I believe my true calling is in teaching, which I enjoy and love.


Hello, my name is Mingyuan Yin (尹明媛). I am from Chongqing, a “mountain city” famous for its spicy food. Born in a teacher’s family, I was deeply influenced by the beautiful Chinese language and culture.

I graduated from Tongji medical college, Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, and got my master degree in medicine in 2009, then I came to Jacksonville for a further study. During last year, I have helped a lot of local friends to learn Chinese. I understand how much effort they have to make to learn a new language, especially Chinese.

It’s a great honor to be part of the JCA Chinese School. My goal for the adult Chinese class is to help them obtain basic communication skills in Chinese and better understand the Chinese history and culture. By lots of topics as well as image materials, to help students perform simple tasks in Chinese. I enjoy every moment of interacting with my students and seeing their improvements on a daily basis. Hope you will have the same joy with me.


My name is Lily Lai. I came from Xi'an, China and graduated from California State University with a degree in accounting. I have more than twenty years of accounting experience. For the past four years, I have volunteered in the local public schools in Sunshine Math and Accelerated Reading to students in second through fifth grades.

My goal for my Chinese students is to build up strong basic skills. In each class we review Pin Yin and the Chinese character strokes; we also learn a variety of new lessons using games and conversation.


我叫刘莉 (Li Liu)。我是2003年从中国沈阳移民来到这美丽的杰城。我热爱舞蹈, 热衷华人社区服务。在2007-2008年,我曾经出任杰城中国同乡会主管文艺演出的副会长。我擅长主跳和指导中国传统和民族舞的编导。我将在今年秋季应邀出任杰城中文学校舞蹈健身兴趣班的舞蹈老师。

自2003年落户杰城以来, 我几乎每年都和大家一样积极参与杰城中国同乡会的大型春节文艺演出并多次担任编舞, 独舞和领舞的重要角色。并在今年的北佛州春晚迎新春大型晚会上为来自中国的著名歌手成方圆,陈思思和张琛编舞和伴舞。与伙伴们一起, 我们的创意伴舞, 为今年的春晚锦上添花, 得到了中国侨联演出团领队, 演职员和休斯顿总领馆以及广大观众的欢迎和好评。在业余时间我还经常受邀参加杰城市府, 当地社区和周边城市的演出, 为我们杰城中国同乡会争光。


An accomplished soprano, Lan Zhang graduated from Northwestern National University (Lanzhou, China) majoring in Vocal Performance. She has won several signing competitions in China including “First Prize of Young Singer's Competition of Qinghai (1986)”and “First Prize of Young Singer's Competition of Ningxia (1989, 1994).” She worked as a Solo Singer at Qinghai Singing and Dancing House for few years, and before coming to the United States she was on the faculty of Ningxia University teaching voice related courses. Sponsored by Chinese government, she taught voice and Chinese music at Arts Academy of Korea (Pyongyang) for two years (1991-1993). Her performance and teaching has been highly praised by musicians, audience, and students.

Hello, my name is Jingxue Chen. I am an exchange student from Shannxi Normal University in xi’an. When I was in China, I majored in TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a foreign language) and I feel very happy that I can study in the University of North Florida this year.

Chinese is such an interesting language. The more you learn about it, the more you love it. Teaching children Chinese is a meaningful job for me and I hope through my students’ effort as well as my effort, all of the lovely children will make great progress in Chinese.


My name is Deng Jie Mei (邓洁梅) and most people know me as Maria Hendricks. I am originally from Guangzhou China. I hold a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Jianghan Petroleum Institute, China and an MBA in Technology Management from University of Phoenix, USA. I have more than twenty years of professional experience in engineering, scientific research, and project management. For the past 10 years, I have spent many hours volunteering in the local public schools and served as a board member in various parent organizations such as PTO, SAC, IB Boosters Club, and more. I have taught Chinese language lessons for over 5 years and also provided math tutoring to students K-12.

Chinese Language is a beautiful and rather difficult language. My approach is to introduce the Chinese language as a combination of language, art, music, and everyday life, and make it interesting and fun to learn. I enjoy working with students of all ages and am motivated by their success. I am very excited to teach at JCA.


My name is Jianjun He, currently an associate professor at Jacksonville University. My hometown is Yinchuan, Ningxia. I hold degrees from Northwest University for Nationalities (BA in violin performance), The Arts Academy of China (MA in music theory), and West Virginia University (DMA in composition). As a composer, I have finished more than sixty works for a wide variety of media. My music has been recorded on commercially released CDs available on ERM, VMM, Mark Masters, and Da Di label. As a violinist, I have many years experience playing with professional orchestras and performing as a solo recitalist and chamber musician. Before coming to the United States in 1995, I was the chairperson of Ningxia University Music Department. I also taught at West Virginia University (WV), Slippery Rock University (PA), Stephen F Austin State University (TX), and Casper College (WY). I was honored with several teaching awards in China as well as in the United States. My name has been listed in Who’s Who in American Education.
I have been teaching violin for 26 years and many of my former students have become professional violinists. It is my wish to make the violin class at JCA Chinese Scholl a place where kids can develop their passion to music, enjoy learning music, and more importantly establish a good foundation to play violin.

My name Dongyi Zheng. After graduating from Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology, majoring in Fashion Design, I came to the U.S. to pursue my dream of being a teacher. Thank for my unique professional background, I am exploring ways to blend art with education to transform learning from a cognitive process to an aesthetic journey, through which students, regardless of their age and learning needs, can recognize both the beauty of knowledge and the value of a curious mind.


My name is Denise Madonia. I am a native of Florida. I grew up in Tallahassee and Miami and went back to Tallahassee to acquire my Bachelor’s degree in Art Education at Florida State University. I have taught three years in the public school system as an Art teacher grades K-8th grades. As an art teacher, I like to teach children the basic foundations of art so they can learn to understand and appreciate art as they grow up and explore the world. I am very passionate and excited about art and teaching children and I look forward to teaching at JCA.
